Giving Tuesday recognizes the spirit of generosity that can be found all around us. As a global movement, the event is designed to inspire people and communities to come together at a time of the year when we can collectively reflect on those in need.

While Black Friday and Cyber Monday are recognized as days of spending, Giving Tuesday is an opportunity to donate—your time, your talent or your passion to transform your community.

Giving Tuesday was founded in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation. It didn’t take long at all for Giving Tuesday to be embraced and gain awareness across social media. The hashtag #GivingTuesday is part of the official name.
